Om de reeks Affiche-interventies af te ronden vond ik de 23ste Klimaat Conferentie te Bonn een goed referentie... Ik had vanaf de zomer affiches geplakt die ik in 2014 had gemaakt voor een project te Marchin... en verder deel uit maakt van mijn ‘recherches (e)aux submersibles’ terugblikkend op diverse memorabele stukken, in dit geval een poster van DB uit 1967, als studentenaffiche overgenomen in 1968 en dan later door de Grünen etc... recent weer in de media opgedoken in verschillende gedaantes: “Alle reden vom Wetter”...

Anyway, ik modificeerde de resterende affiches met een pijl, om ze te onderscheiden van de Wahlplakate ingezet tijdens de laatste verkiezingen in Duitsland, en ging naar de ‘tentenkamp’ van de NGO’s in der Rheinaue juist ten zuiden van de stad, waar alle randactiviteiten van de officiële VN-conferentie plaatsgrepen... speciaal voor de occasie een laatste groenzone van de stad volbouwen met plastiektenten en paneel-elementen op alu-structuren en omringd door stroom generatoren (diesel) en security-zones, prikkeldraad dat minder prikkelt dan diep snijd (nato-draad) en shuttlelimousines en shuttlebusjes met verbrandingsmotoren... een openbaar bus uit Essen op hybridenwaterstof... 

Ik bevestigdte mijn op karton geplakt en met sisaltouwtjes voorziene affiches aan de bomen rond om rond het ‘kamp’ en maakte mij uit de voeten voor dat de regelmatige polizei-patrouilles mij opmerkten... gedelegeerden kwamen intussen toegestroomd wand valavond, en hier was de grote partytent: ingangen voor observers, vip-press en party party party welcome in Engels, Duits en Fidjaans... het meest bedreigde guest of honour die de besluiten van COP21 in parijs moeten hard maken... in afwachting tot wie de Amerikanen gaan sturen...

Het was de dag dat Europa de Glyfosfaten ging bespreken, en ik mot toegeven dat ik niet goed weet van welk circus ik meer (of minder) moet verwachten of effectief iets te doen aan onze rampzalige biosfeer...

To finish off the series of poster-apparitions in Germany I decided to cut to the chase and go to the COP 23 circus in Bonn... this former capital now UN-zone, climate being the main aspect of this “Alle reden vom Wetter” intervention... strangely enough, the forgotten slogan has acquired quite a bit of traction recently, thanks to the current bozo posing as president of the US of A...

So, now that my poster is no longer a curiosity but has become part of a rehash, some of my own making, some by circumstance, it is time to round this series up and pack in...

Produced for a show in may 2014, I had used the poster for various reasons along the way, including my alma mater back in Canada, and obviously for the recent elections in Germany...after presenting it here in Antwerp again in October, I decided enough was enough and this occasion was perfect...

Obviously too late for an official intervention, - was considering the ‘Peoples Climate Summit’ just before the official COP licked off... (too late too) but wild and streetwise is more my thing, so I added arrows to the poster and affixed it on cardboard, string to attach it without damage to property & all that...

They had built a big tented conference show in the “Rheinaue” – originally a small floodplain just south of the city, now part of the urban sprawl and more of a recreational area... anyway, to put some more pressure on this small nature reserve they decided to camp thousands of NGO environmentalists here for the duration... if only the refugees from Fiji had the same sort of infrastructure when the storms hit...

Anyway, I surrounded the camp as it were, with posters on trees at regular but not too obtrusive intervals... finishing up just before the crowds started coming in after the other conference meetings all over town...

As to the use of it all? Well, for my part the poster is but an ‘acte de présence’ and as such a form of amusement, but perhaps also bemusement, since it refers back to a time (50 years now!) since artsy-freaks have been pressing environmental issues... and still results are way below par... in fact, the way things seem to be going, were headed backwards...

Will they come up with real solutions & cement Paris promises? Will they resist trumpet calls for more jobs & silly money? Tough decisions to make, but I had the impression it’s still in a fairground atmosphere... it doesn’t yet hurt enough it seems, aside from the little guys...

But let’s not abandon hope,
